The film Elizabeth staring Cate Blanchet The film was based from the begging of Elizabeths Reign as Queen and how she dealth with the struggles and issues of being the Queen. The film won an Oscar for the best make-up which is truly inspiring. What I liked about the film was seeing the transformation of Elizabeth going from girl to women. The film was set in 1558 so Elizabeth was 25 at the time. The director Shekhar Kapur I feel gave a realistic and relatable view of Elizabeth as the opening seen she is seen dancing which makes her seem like an upbeat person. He also portrays the wealth and royality aspect so well by the colour schemes the use of gold
and red decorated the walls throughout the film. I like how throughout the film slight changes are made to the hair and makeup to make her seem more mature such as applying more make-up to emphize shes aging therefore needs more applied and her hair going from down and virginal to up in more mature designed hair dues still off her face. On set there was a large make-up team there were 22 people from makeup artist to special effects and a hair team on stand.
Elizabeth the Golden age
This is film where you get to see the matured Queen where she is more confident in her role and more empowerd. The film is set in 1588 which would make the Queen 52 at the start of them film It was set during the spanish Armada and Mary Queen of Scotts which Queen Elizabeth overcame both of them. You see alot of wigs used throughout this film on Elizabeth I feel its to be more realistic as Elizabeth would have been wearing wigs due to the amount of hair lost, and you notice shes wearing higher necklined clothing to cover up wrinkles etc. She is paler and her cheeks are more rouge during the film symbolising her getting older and needing more make-up although you don't see a big transformation between the first and section film which I feel is a shame as she is alot older in the second and I feel that could have been brought to life abit more. I don't know if this is to re and act that Elizabeth controlled the way she was seen by society therefore she can still control how she is seen in this generation. If so I think the director Shekhar Kapur is very clever in what he has done. I loved the design of this film as well as the first every aspect of the 16th century taken into consideration from the clothes to the decor and the contrast between rich and poor was executed amazingly with it being so dramatic with the poor litterally wearing rags and the rich wearing extravagant garments. I also love how even people in the background were well thought about with amazing hair designs I felt like I was actually In the 16th century while watching. I also loved the basic makeup on Elizabeth I feel it made it more realistic
